The Minnesota Vikings have made it clear that they intend on trying to keep backup running back Chester Taylor even if it costs them more to do so.
The Vikings are willing to pay the 31-year old running back starter-type money if that’s what it takes to keep him, which could be an indictment of Adrian Peterson.
Peterson had major fumbling issues and coughed the ball up three times in the NFC championship game, which was a big reason why they lost.
Taylor is a good pass-blocker who is also a terrific receiver out of the backfield. He also does a nice job giving Peterson a breather and is very careful with the ball.
Some feel that Taylor is actually the unsung hero of the offense and that the team would take a major hit if he were to leave via free agency.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre thanked fans for their support on a post on his official Web site.
Favre remains undecided on whether or not to return next year and has no timetable for a final decision.
The quarterback said he was thrilled with his decision to return to the NFL and has no regrets.
He also mentioned that his body isn’t getting any younger, obviously showing his indecision toward a return next year.
Some fans have already made an effort to lure him back by putting up messages on billboards.

For one of the most feared rushers in the NFL these past few seasons, “liability” has not been a word often used to describe the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson.
But on Monday, former NY Giants running back Tiki Barber told radio station WFAN that Peterson was becoming a liability for the Vikings.
“He’s becoming a liability for his team,” Barber said. “It’s all mechanics. It’s the same thing I had to learn. You do something one way for so long, you get away with it and you don’t think it’s a problem. Once you get in the National Football League and everybody — safeties, linebackers, defensive linemen — they’re all taught to strip. If you have any kind of a looseness in that football, it’s going to come out.”
Barber, who once had a severe fumbling problem of his own, almost saw his incredible running success derailed because of his tendency to fumble. Instead, he says Giants coach Tom Coughlin sat Barber down and warned him that he’d have to change his running style in order to be a successful running back in the NFL going forward.
“I think with Adrian Peterson, he needs somebody with authority — with a strong voice — to tell him, ‘Look, as great as a player as you are, you’re a liability,’ ” Barber said. “And that’s what Tom Coughlin did with me. He said, ‘Tiki, I love the way you play the game of football, but you fumble and you’re a liability.’ It hits your pride in a way that makes you want to correct it, and I don’t think anybody’s ever done that for Adrian Peterson yet.”
