Childress not setting deadline for Favre

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said he will not set a timeline to hear back from quarterback Brett Favre about his future plans.

Favre has already indicated that his decision this time around will not be the long, drawn-out process it has been in the past.

Then again, Favre has said many times over before that he was retired for good only to eventually come back and play.

Childress said that the team would like to know sooner rather than later, but can begin plans for both situations.

Rumors are abound that the Vikings could trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Favre likely to retire

While he didn’t make an announcement, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is likely to retire.

Favre told some that it was highly unlikely that he would return next season after losing in the NFC championship game.

That being said, the quarterback said he could not make the proper decision at the moment given all the emotions of the loss.

He said that he would sit down with his family and discuss his options for next year over the coming days.

Favre didn’t completely rule out a comeback, and I think it’s possible he returns for one more Super Bowl run.

Vikings fall to Saints in OT, 31-28

The Minnesota Vikings threw away a chance at the Super Bowl in a 31-28 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The Vikings outgained the high-powered Saints offense by more than 200 yards and dominated the game, yet were done in by turnovers.

The Vikings fumbled the ball six times, losing three of them, and quarterback Brett Favre also threw two inteceptions.

The one interception proved very costly, as the Vikings sat just outside of field goal range and needed just a few more yards for a game-winning attempt.

It’s going to a long offseason for the Vikings to contemplate what could have been, and they also have to await a decision on whether or not Favre will return next season.

Vikings to use earplugs

The Minnesota Vikings have given all of their players a set of earplugs for Sunday’s playoff game.

The team has ordered each player to practice with the earplugs this week as they pipe in crowd noise.

The Vikings are anticipating a very loud crowd at the Superdome and want to have their players prepared to deal with it.

The one good thing is that the Vikings also play in a dome, so they are used to hearing the noise, even if it doesn’t happen when they are on offense.

Brett Favre has been in a lot of stadiums and domes over his career, so I doubt the noise will rattle him.

Preview: Vikings vs. Saints

Fans should be happy that they are getting the matchup that they have been waiting for all year in the NFC.

The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, the top 2 teams in the NFC, will square off in the championship game.

Minnesota clearly has the better defense, but New Orleans’ passing attack could cause their weak secondary major problems.

The Vikings have the more balanced offense, but it will all come down to whether or not their offensive line shows up to play.

Both teams play in a dome, but New Orleans will certainly have an edge thanks to the noise factor. Vikings 30, Saints 27

Vikings roll over Cowboys, 34-3

The Minnesota Vikings gradually pulled away from the Dallas Cowboys for an impressive, 34-3 victory.

Minnesota had trouble scoring early, and it looked as though the Cowboys were going to have success moving the ball.

However, veteran quarterbac Brett Favre struck first on a deep ball to wide receiver Sidney Rice, and things just progressed from there.

Kicker Sean Suisham missed two field goals for the Cowboys, which fueled the fire for the Vikings.

All told, Favre tossed four touchdown passes, three of which went to Rice. The wideout finished with 141 yards receiving.

Cowboys vs. Vikings preview

The Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings are set to square off for the right to go to the NFC championship game.

Dallas is fresh off of an easy victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, who they beat for the third time this year.

The Cowboys have used a ferocious pass rush to cause teams a lot of problems, and I’m sure the Vikings are concerned.

Minnesota’s offensive line has been terribly disappointing his year, and the team has really struggled against teams that got pressure on Brett Favre.

The Vikings also haven’t run the ball very well, and Dallas has been shutting down the running game.

Minnesota is a totally different team playing at home, but the Dallas D might be too much. Cowboys 23, Vikings 19

Harvin named top offensive rookie

The Associated Press has named Minnesota Vikings wideout Percy Harvin’s it’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Harvin, who is also the team’s kick and punt returner, has had a huge impact on the Minnesota offense.

The versatile wideout finished the year with nearly 800 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 135 yards and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Harvin also managed to set a single-season team record for the most all-purpose yards.

He garnered 41 of the 50 votes, with Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher coming in second place with six votes.

Vikings rout Giants, 44-7

The Minnesota Vikings got back on track in a big way with a 44-7 beatdown of the New York Giants.

Quarterback Brett Favre continued his MVP-like season with 316 yards passing and four touchdowns.

The offense put up 31 points in the first half and scored 13 more in the third quarter before calling off the dogs.

The defense rebounded from a pathetic performance last week to hold the Giants scoreless until the fourth quarter.

It’s become painfully obvious that the Vikings are a much different team at home in the dome than on the road.

Vikings fall to Bears in OT, 36-30

The Minnesota Vikings rallied back from a 17-point deficit but still fell short in a 36-30 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears.

The loss has the Vikings fading quickly in the NFC and starting to wonder whether they are Super Bowl material.

Quarterback Brett Favre was getting crushed in the first half behind an offensive line that couldn’t block anyone.

Favre took things into his own hands in the second half, changing protections and calling successful audibles at the line of scrimmage.

The late rally wasn’t enough because the Minnesota secondary couldn’t slow down quarterback Jay Cutler, who tossed four touchdown passes on the night.
