Vikings win by miracle, 27-24

Anyone who second guessed the Brett Favre signing must be on board with the move after Sunday’s game.

Favre tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give the Minnesota Vikings an improbable, 27-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

It was tough sledding all day for the Vikings, who had a field goal blocked and run back for a touchdown.

Adrian Peterson had a quiet day, rushing for 84 yards but failing to reach the end zone.

It was Favre’s day, as the quarterback finished with over 300 yards passing and showed he is much more than a caretaker or game manager.

Spectacular touchdown catch with two seconds left gives Vikings win

It took a minor miracle, but the Minnesota Vikings are 3-0.

Brett Favre connected with a double-covered Greg Lewis on a 32-yard pass with two seconds remaining to give the Vikings a come-from-behind 27-24 win over the previously unbeaten San Francisco 49ers. Minnesota was all but done before Lewis snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, making a spectacular catch that’s sure to be the play of the day.

It was a miraculous play to cap an otherwise difficult day for Minnesota. Favre threw for 301 yards but was just 24 of 46, and the San Francisco defense limited running back Adrian Peterson to just 85 yards.

Still, this is exactly the reason why the Vikings endured all the Favre drama in the preseason. He’s as clutch as they come, and three games into the season, he’s already paying dividends and helped bail out a defense that was surprisingly pushed around by a 49ers offense that lost star running back Frank Gore early in the game due to injury.

Vikings run past Lions, 27-10

The Minnesota Vikings looked half asleep for much of the first half but woke up in time to run past the Detroit Lions, 27-13.

The Lions jumped out to a 10-0 lead, leaving many to wonder whether they might finally win another game.

The Vikings then quickly put to rest any such hopes, holding the Lions to just a field goal in the second half.

Quarterback Brett Favre led the charge, tossing two touchdown passes and helping to fire up Minnesota’s stagnant offense.

Running back Adrian Peterson came up just shy of the 100-yard mark but did manage to find the end zone again.

Vikings roll past Browns, 34-21

The Minnesota Vikings turned a close game at halftime into a rout in the second half in a 34-21 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin recorded his first touchdown on a pass from quarterback Brett Favre, who finished the day with just over 100 yards.

The star of the show was running back Adrian Peterson, who had 180 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The defense played well, much better than the score would indicate, as one Cleveland touchdown came on a punt return and another occurred during garbage time.

Favre, Peterson Key Vikes’ Win Over Browns

The Brett Favre experiment got off to a rousing success on Sunday afternoon, as Favre and the Vikings handily beat the Cleveland Browns, 34-20.

Favre threw a 6-yard TD to rookie WR Percy Harvin (and laid him out in the end zone immediately after), but he took a backseat to RB Adrian Peterson’s heroics in the second half. He finished 14 of 21 for 110 yards and the aforementioned TD, with no INTs.

“I had a blast,” Favre said. “It wasn’t a 400-yard passing game, but it doesn’t have to be. As long as we win, that’s what it’s all about.”

All-Day finished with 25 carries for 180 yards and three touchdowns, including a sensational 64-yard run in the second half where he viciously stiff-armed a Browns defender.

After an unproductive first half where he required treatment for a badly cut arm, A.P. justified his #1 fantasy football ranking with an offensive outburst in the second half.

“I gagged myself a couple times trying to get everything in my stomach out [at halftime],” he said. “Normally it makes me feel better and it did. I came in and got an IV and felt recharged and rejuvenated and was ready to go to work.”

Teammates say Favre isn’t savior

Despite the long courting of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, his teammates do not see him as the savior.

You would think that all of the attention and bending over backward for Favre would mean the team is getting a game-changer, but not according to the team.

The players all say that their focus hasn’t changed since he has arrived and that they knew they had an excellent team without him.

Head coach Brad Childress even said that Favre is just a piece of the puzzle and not a player who is going to make a huge difference.

They might be saying all of that publicly, but it sure seems like a big upgrade to me.

Favre’s teammates not buying in yet

It seems that quarterback Brett Favre does have some convincing to do when it comes to his Minnesota Vikings teammates, some of which are unhappy he was signed by the organization.

Several noteworthy players from the Vikings had been urging Favre to come out of retirement and join the team, but it seems like he wasn’t loved by all.

A bunch of players want quarterback Tavaris Jackson to start, and his impressive performance in the second preseason game might have reinforced those feelings.

Favre doesn’t seem to be too bothered by rumors that he does not have the support of many players on the team, saying he is still feeling his way around.

My guess is that winning cures everything, and Favre should help the Vikings do just that.

Favre believes he has cracked rib

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said he believes he has a cracked rib following his first preseason appearance.

Favre remembers the hit that drove him into the ground and said he now has trouble breathing because of the pain.

There is really nothing that is done to treat a broken rib, so the quarterback said he will just keep playing.

The team may X-ray him, but it seems rather pointless.

He took the field against the Houston Texans and looked surprisingly sharp despite the offensve struggling to move the ball.

Vikings looking to deal Jackson

The Minnesota Vikings are now looking to trade third-string quarterback Tavaris Jackson.

Jackson was once expected to battle for the starting quarterback job, but then the team signed Brett Favre.

At that point, many thought Jackson’s days in Minnesota were numbered and he would be traded or released.

However, Jackson played well during the preseason and may have raised his stock enough to entice a team in need of a quarterback to make a trade for him.

The Vikings were previously asking for just a seventh round pick and still couldn’t find any takers, so who knows what they might receive now.

Favre Shines in Preseason Action

Cracked rib or not, if Brett Favre plays like he did in last night’s preseason game against the Texans, he makes the Vikings instant legitimate Super Bowl contenders from the NFC.

In a 17-10 win over the Texans , Favre went 13-of-18 for 142 yards and a 28-yard swing pass TD to backup RB Chester Taylor.

What about starting RB Adrian “All-Day” Peterson, you ask? No worries, All-Day got his. On the Vikings first play from scrimmage, Favre handed off to AP and he was off to the races, cutting right before streaking 75 yards down the sideline for a score.

Favre was involved in a bit of controversy on his first big night of action. After lining up as a wide receiver in the Wildcat formation in the third quarter, Favre delivered an illegal crackback block to Houston’s Eugene Wilson while “trying to protect [Percy] Harvin.”

The Vikings have a quick turnaround, playing again Friday against Dallas. Vikings coach Brad Childress has not announced whether Favre will play or not.
